Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) recently denied reports that his campaign organisation received the sum of $150 million from diasporans.
The news was shared by Channels TV on September 7, 2022.
The denial came after a group accused Obi of accepting donation to his presidential ambition, while sensitizing Nigerians abroad.
The group demanded for the disqualification of Peter Obi by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that fundraising outside the country allegedly goes against the Electoral Act on campaign funding.
Obi in an interview discarded the allegations, noted that allegations are baseless.
He said, “Nobody has given me anything”.
He added that he doesn’t want to be given things by Nigerians in diaspora, rather he’s more concerned about what they would give Nigeria, because he needs them to transform the country.
According to Obi, Nigerians have the energy and the capacity that is needed to building a better Nigeria.
Obi said those who alleged that his campaign was being funded were only speculating.
He also refuted reports of campaigning but said he was only consulting outside the country.
