The rift between the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is gathering momentum each passing day.
The Rivers Governor’s camp has alleged that the former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku is playing “a divide and rule” in the PDP.
The Nation reported that Governor Wike’s supporters alleged that Atiku has started by-passing Wike and reaching out to other notable Rivers State PDP chieftains in a bid to isolate the governor ahead of next year’s general elections.
It was said that the presidential candidate has been secretly meeting some Rivers PDP leaders, including former Senator Lee Meeba, former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Austin Opara, and former Governor Celestine Omehia to boost his chances in the state in case there is a total misunderstanding with Wike.
The above was against earlier reports that all hands are on deck to put an end to the present crisis bedeviling the main opposition party in meeting last week between the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has begun to yield positive results as a 14-member panel has been set up to consult and make recommendations which both men will consider.
