Serious chaos in the Oil rich community of Ogulagha, Burutu Local Government Area as a 27 year old man was killed by soldiers working with Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.
The young man identified as Ebi Endurance, was reportedly killed by soldiers on watch at the Forcados Terminal on Tuesday morning.
The unfortunate incident has reportedly incited agitations among youths of Ogulagha, who in a protest have taken over the streets of the community over Ebi’s death.
As gathered, vehicles and other properties have been destroyed by the youths, who demanded the SPDC to take responsibility of the incident.
Comrade ThankGod Iyoragba, the Youth President of Ogulagha community confirmed the incident, stating that the victim with three others had gone to pick snails in the forest close to the Forcados Terminal, when the uniform men saw them.
Iyoragba said, in the sight of the soldiers, Ebi was afraid and decided to run before he was shot.
He said, ” we are doing our best to calm the tension because the youths are very angry. The deceased was shot at in a close range in the company of three of his colleagues. They went to pick snails before they were accosted by the soldiers.”
He called on the SPDC to own up to the incident to calm the situation without delay.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said he had not been briefed of the incident, promising to revert to our correspondent with further details.
