Some women from Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have staged a protest at the State Government House over alleged harassment of the Leader of the Etche Legislative Arm, Cynyhia Nwala.

As earlier reported by Thepeoplesvoicengr that Nwala was allegedly assaulted on Monday by the Chief Security Officer of the LG Council.

She had attempted to take the mace of the legislative assembly out of the council headquarters when the outburst began.

Some of the women who were accompanied by undergraduate students in the state condemned the “harassment” and demanded an end to violence against women.

One of the students who joined the protest on Wednesday stated, “we left lecture to this place to show our displeasure. We are angry because we are the leaders of tomorrow. When you train a woman you train the nation. Let them give us a chance, they should stop oppressing us”.

They also bidded a meticulous investigation into the incident at the council headquarters.

Also speaking, the Leader of Etche Legislative Assembly, Cynthia Nwala alleged that there is a plan to impeach her from office which has led to the prevailing crisis.

She said: “I don’t know why the council chairman is doing that”.

“I can show you the picture of the deputy leader who is working with the chairman. One of them called and told me they had a meeting with the chairman that I should be careful”.

She said the deputy leader was already dressed to be sworn in as soon as they get hold of the mace.
