The Initiator and Leader of the campaign, Complete Ayakoromo Bridge (CAB), Comrade Anthony Miens Demebide has once again reiterated his commitment to ensure that the Ayakoromo bridge project is completed.
The social media influencer cum social activist has been a consistent voice on the calls to His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State to please complete the Ayakoromo bridge project.
Demebide promised that while waiting to unveil the big plans concerning calls for the completion of the bridge, he would not relent on the available means to keep drawing the government’s attention to its promise in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
The Ayakoromo-born activist has over time lamented the stagnation of the project, noting that much work has not been done by the Okowa-led administrations after taking over from his successor, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan as governor of Delta State.

The Ayakoromo bridge project has become a politicking tool for the Delta state government as top political functionaries are tip-toeing on it to facilitate their 2023 electioneering campaigns.
Good governance is when all is impacted evenly. Just like a ceremony where there is much to eat and drink, he that wasn’t given will categorically state that there was food and a lot of drinks but the servers were biased and unjust in their style of service. So is the case with the Izon-speaking people of Delta.
Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s mantra of Prosperity For All Deltans is a selective political gospel, sidelining the Delta riverine communities, especially the Ijaws. Apart from the appointment of political stewards into offices, a usual thing by all successive governments, Okowa is yet to reward the Delta Ijaw with infrastructural projects for their massive support during his elections. Should I mention the substandard pavement roads which are already wearing away in Burutu and other towns?
The distribution of infrastructural development in the state should be fair to us also. We have suffered the brunts of the unjust distribution of democratic dividends in terms of infrastructural developments in electricity, education, health sector, drinkable water, road network, to mention but a few. I fear how long this democratic injustice will continue.
The Ayakoromo bridge project was approved and awarded by Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan in his second term. No significant work was done on the project before his second administration as governor of Delta state elapsed.
Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa came with this project ranking top in his campaign promises in 2015. We preached “Okowaism” through the length and breadth as hoped that his time shall see the completion of the work on ground. He publicly announced the bridge project as a top priority of his government if elected.
The promise was first made at Kiagbodo, the traditional headquarters of Ngbilebiri- Mein Kingdom in Burutu LGA during one of his campaigns. Nothing much was done in his first term. This promise resurfaced at Burutu town, the capital town of Burutu LGA during his bid for re-election campaign in 2019 but even after two years for the repeated time, nothing encouraging can be figured out about the project.
More than one year ago, the Delta state government through the state’s Commissioner for Works, HON. CHIEF JAMES OJODOVBA AUGOYE inspected the bridge project in company of other top government functionaries with the reaffirmation message of willingness of the government to complete the project. But I feel otherwise that it was a calculated move by the government to make the public uphold its trust and confidence in the present administration.
With unreserved respect, I want to say that the state’s second citizen, BAR. (DCN) KINGSLEY BURUTU OTUARO is from Ijaw Extraction whose traditional nativity also connects to Ayakoromo. He also schooled in Ayakoromo, and as such should indicate interest, prioritize this project. His mutism on the Ayakoromo bridge is so perturbing. This project is not only for Ayakoromo and Ijaw people but the entire economic community of the state and beyond. Some viral applause to His Excellency, Bar. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro making round the cyberspace, counting contributions is a jestery to favour his political ambitions come 2023.
I want to with immeasurable regard implore CHIEF PA E. K. CLARK, Father of Ijaw Nation who is also from the area the bridge project is sited, our own distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, SENATOR JAMES MANAGER aka EGBAIGE, representing Delta South Senatorial District at the Higher Division of the Federal Legislature, Dr. Braduce Amakazi Angozi , Former Council Boss of Burutu LGA & Former Commissioner for Agriculture, Delta state, an illustrious leader and son of Ayakoromo Town, RT. HON. JULIUS GBABOJOR PONDI, Member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in The Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Asupa Forteta, member representing Burutu North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, G. O. C. Tompolo Ekpemupolo Oweizide, and all other well-meaning Delta Ijaw leaders to speak up for the completion of this project.
“This project lacks the favours and support of most Ijaw political LEADERS hence it has suffered stalement and deliberate nonchalance from Governor Okowa, if not it would’ve been completed and commissioned for usage. It’s high time we started thinking and speaking progressively towards Ijaw Nation as a people. Imagine this economically important project is still in his skeletal look even after Okowa’s 6 years and the promising inspection by the state government more than 12 months ago.
In addition, Miens pleaded with Okowa, the “Road Master” to complete the Ayakoromo bridge, given that the bridge if completed will boost the Internal Generation Revenue (IGR), and the people’s economic life.
“I humbly plead that Okowa should remember his promise to the people of Burutu LGA during his gubernatorial campaigns, and how these people came out massively to elect him as governor of Delta State, hence I beckon on Mr Governor to complete the bridge project”, he added.
