Roberto Mancini’s Italy are now the champions of the 2020 European Championship.
Bonucci’s 67th minute goal in the second half equalized Luke Shaw’s goal, scored in the 2nd minute of the game.
The match with so much vigour and strong character as both sides threatened and made some spectacular moves to score but all efforts proved abortive.
The game went into a barren extra time of 30 minutes with both teams unable to produce a winner goal in either halves.
The match was finally forced into a penalty shootout, and Italy clamped the day with 3-2 victory.
The win is Italy’s second ever Euro title and first since 1968. It was the first shootout in a Euro final since 1976.
England manager Gareth Southgate brought on both Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to take penalty kicks, and both missed.
Congratulations to Italy!
