Following the death of Lieutenant-General Attahiru Ibrahim who died in a Kaduna air crash alongside other 10 military officers, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
This appointment was made known by Bashir Ahmad via his Twitter page yesterday, 27th May, 2021. He is the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the statement as signed and released by Brigadier-General Oyema Nwachukwu, the military spokesperson on Thursday;
“Prior to his appointment, Maj. Gen. Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI”.
