Breaking: Warri Traditional Council Officially Announces Olu’s Death, Also Picks New Olu-Designate



The Traditional Council Of Chiefs of Warri has formally announced the demise of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu Of Warri to the solemn assembly of the Itsekiri Nation.

This was made known to the public today Monday 5 April, 2021 which has quenched the flaming controversies surrounding the monarch’s death.

Chief Atserunleghe officially made the announcement by symbolically breaking three native pots containing white native chalks, one after the other on the floor.

Reliable sources stated that he announced “Alejefun-ooooh” after each occasion and it was accompanied by twenty cannon shots.

The sources further mentioned that the twenty cannon shots symbolically signified that twenty Monarch’s (Olus) had reigned over Iwere Land since its existence.


Moreover, Chief Atserunleghe also announced Tsola Emiko as the Olu-designate to take over the mantle of traditional leadership which was accompanied. This announcement was greeted with wild ovation and jubilation from Itsekiri sons and daughters present at the event.

Atserunleghe also added that the Itsekiri people would be in a mourning mood in the next three months till the burial rite of the monarch is completed as the statement reads;

“All Itsekiri adults both male and female will put their clothes upside down throughout this period of mourning.

“No party, no drumming or merriment of any sort in Itsekiri land, until the burial is over and new Olu Installed,” he said.
