Delta LGA Polls 2021: Oromoni Takes On Okowa, DSIEC For Transparent And Credible Elections

Published

The Delta state chairmanship and councillorship elections are billed to hold on the 6th of March, 2021 across all local government areas.

As regards the above development, Comrade John Ekabukumor Oromoni has tasked His Excellency, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, (DSIEC) to be transparent so that free and fair polls could manifest at the end.

The comrade in a statement forecautions against misconduct associated with local government elections.

“In the prospect of good governance and to the very core of yearning for infrastructural development, it is imperative to unequivocally enunciate the prevailing and aching plight bedeviling the people of Delta State particularly Burutu local government area. This is not easy to say but reflecting from over the years of the existence of Delta state, local governments under the watch of the PDP’s leadership has often been the case of underdevelopment, unemployment and marginalization. Suffice to say, as it is observed, in aggregate and totality of all chairmen emerged, who lacked the political will to use their leadership to bring about mean development across the communities that make up the LGAs, most poised on putting up minimal structures at the LGA’s headquarters, to deframe people from the sanity of reasoning, Burutu was a typical reference under the watch of the immediate past administration”.

Consequently, LGA bosses to bring about commendable projects across their political jurisdiction remains a topical discourse as many come with the mindset to rule for self-aggrandisement.

“As opposed to democracy, most immediate past chairmen of local government councils across the state had no footprints to be remembered by the ruled. This is quite unfortunate”, as the Comrade further noted.

Whatever, “Cases of outright imposition of candidates on the people as recorded in time past shouldn’t repeat itself”.

Inferably, John advocates to allow all registered candidates from the different political parties to test their popularity at the field, and allow the electorate to select their choice through franchise.

Moreover, the statement emphasises the impunity exercised over the political rights of the populace. “It is so pathetic for giving a nod to the return bid of most past chairmen for the repeated time, godfatherism in awe display”, he averred.

It is to the aforementioned issues that I charge Governor Okowa, and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission to rise to the democratic demand of the masses to choose their chairmen and councillors through the ballots. He also tasks the various activist groups to push for a better, transparent, peaceful, free and fair local government polls 2021 across Delta State.

Ekabukumor also included in his chats with Thepeoplesvoicengr, ” I humbly call on the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, inclusive of DSP Ovie Omo-Agege, Bar. Festus Keyamo, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, and others to keenly push for a credible electioneering process, and monitor it the latter”.
